At the April 22, 2013 Annual Meeting of the Membership, the election results were announced for the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee.
The following individuals were elected for three-year terms ending in 2016:
Board of Directors: Susan Nielsen, Dave Shriver, Ron Hupp and Adam Benson (Appointed to a one-year term.)
Audit Committee: Rudy Mueller (Appointed to a one-year term.)

Carla Altepeter, President and CEO
Before becoming the President and CEO at Numerica Credit Union, Carla Altepeter served as president/CEO of CitizensFirst Credit Union in Oshkosh, Wis., since 1992. Carla served on various local and national boards and committees. At the state level, she served as vice chair of the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors and vice chair of the Wisconsin Credit Union Review Board. She is a past member of the Wisconsin Credit Union League Governmental Affairs Committee and a member and past vice chair of the CUES Wisconsin Council.
At the national level, Carla was a past board member of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). She currently serves on the board and is a past chair of the Credit Union Executive Society (CUES) and has been a CUES delegate to the World Council of Credit Unions in 2008 and 2009. She was inducted into the CUES Hall of Fame in 2010.
Carla is a past recipient of the Tempo International Distinguished Service Award, the Athena International Leadership Award, and the Sam Walton Business Leader Award.
Carla received a baccalaureate degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. She has also completed the CUES Certified Chief Executive Institute, and the CUES Advanced Leadership Institute.
On a personal note, Carla is married and has four grown children. She enjoys reading books, golf, good wine and kick-boxing.
Jennifer Lehn, EVP Chief Operations Officer
Jennifer Lehn joined Numerica Credit Union in 1989 as the Chief Financial Officer after spending 10 years auditing financial institutions with a regional CPA firm. She moved to the Executive Vice President position in 2002. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Idaho, with majors in Finance and Accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant.
Jennifer is currently chair of the CUNA Operations, Sales, and Service Council, and previously served on the CUNA CFO Council Executive Committee. She was also a member of the League Services, Inc. board, and served a three-year term on the American Institute of Public Accountants Credit Unions Committee. In the Spokane community, Jennifer currently serves on the Board of Gonzaga Preparatory School and chairs its Finance Committee. She has been recently elected to the Board of the Women Helping Women Fund of Spokane.
When not at work, Jennifer enjoys her two boys, two dogs, skiing, hiking and attempting to golf. She enjoys boating around the family cabin at Priest Lake, Idaho.
Kelley Ferguson, Chief Information Officer
Kelley Ferguson has worked in the financial industry for almost 20 years, and has been employed by Numerica since 1998. He has held several positions within the credit union while advancing to his current position of CIO. He is responsible for technology innovation and leadership at the credit union. Kelley is a Certified Information Systems Auditor, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, a Certified Information Systems Security Manager, and holds additional certifications from both Microsoft and Cisco. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Whitworth University, where he graduated Cum Laude, and earned his Master's degree from Gonzaga University. Kelley also achieved a certification in Servant Leadership at Gonzaga University.
Kelley was a CUNA technology council best practices award winner in 2007. He has a passion for speaking on security, and volunteers his time to educate groups on electronic threats and ways to avoid becoming a victim of computer fraud. Kelley was interviewed in a three-part series about the threat of identity theft on NBC's TODAY Show, where Numerica was featured alongside Trace Security for their efforts to educate members about threats. In his spare time, Kelley enjoys coaching football and basketball, volunteering his time on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of the Inland Northwest and hanging out with his family.
Cindy Leaver, Chief Financial Officer
Cindy has served as Numerica Credit Union's Chief Financial Officer since 2005. Prior to joining the Numerica team Cindy had more than 10 years of progressive responsibility within the financial services industry, including several years in the Farm Credit system. Cindy brings many strengths to Numerica, including: asset liability management; allowance for loan losses & TDR analysis; budgeting; investments; profitability analysis & reporting; strategic planning and process improvement. She has successfully led numerous initiatives for Numerica, including developing the Numerica Financial Services program; administering and improving the Asset/Liability Management process; creating the Balanced Scorecard reporting process which includes key performance indicators for each area of the Credit Union; and, overseeing the merger with School Employees Federal Credit Union in 2010.
Cindy is currently a member of the CUNA CFO Council and has served in a volunteer capacity on both the Communications and Partners in Finance committees. She is a past director, treasurer and president of the Spokane Chapter of the Washington Society of CPAs; and she is a past member of the City of Spokane Audit Committee.
Cindy completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting through Gonzaga University, and is a Certified Public Accountant. She also holds an Advanced Project Management certification through Eastern Washington University.
Cindy is married and has four children. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, and scrapbooking.
Nancy Norbury-Harter, Chief Branding Officer
Nancy Norbury-Harter joined Numerica Credit Union in 1990 as a Vice President of Human Resources. She moved to Senior Vice President of Administration in 2008. Nancy holds a BA from Washington State University.
Nancy is active both in the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Human Resource Council and Society of Human Resources Management. She sits on the Northwest Financial Associations' Employee Benefit Trust Steering Committee which represents both Credit Union and Banks. She has been President of the Northwest Human Resource Management Association as well as a Washington State Council Representative. She supports Numerica's various community involvement events as well as charitable activities. She also enjoys volunteering her time with various associations such as American Cancer Association, March of Dimes, Spokane Guild's School, Central Valley School District and YWCA of Spokane Board of Directors.
Kenneth Plank, Chief Lending Officer
Ken comes to Numerica from Washington Trust Bank where he held the position of small business banking manager, reporting to the executive vice president of retail banking. He has over 25 years of experience in commercial lending at Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank and Washington Trust. Plank also has experience in small business administration lending, consumer and mortgage lending and dealer financing.
He has a bachelor's of science degree in business management from Lewis-Clark State College and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School.
Plank is married and resides in the Spokane area.
Lynn Ciani, Vice President General Counsel
Ms. Ciani possesses 30 years of experience in the financial industry and the last nine months have been spent with Numerica. Previously, she was general counsel at Western United Life Assurance Company in Spokane.
Ms. Ciani earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. She also earned her Juris Doctor with cum laude honors from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Ms. Ciani is a member of the Washington State, Idaho and California bars.
Michelle Grabicki, Vice President Branch Administration
Michelle brings 23 years of industry experience with 15 years of that in a leadership role. She joined the Numerica team in 2001 and was promoted to the Vice President of Branch Administration in 2008 which has her overseeing our 17 branches and Member Service Center. Michelle has a passion for service and in 2010 brought the member feedback program "Net Promoter" to Numerica. Michelle and her team are proud of the fact that Numerica was honored as "Best in Class" for two quarters in 2011 in comparison to our peers. We use the feedback our members provide daily to improve the experience that you have at the credit union.
Michelle is an active member of the CUNA Operations Sales and Service Council and is currently serving on the Member Resource and Conference Committees. She is a 2004 graduate of Western CUNA Management School in Pomona, California and is currently completing her undergraduate studies at EWU. She loves that Numerica makes giving back to the community a focus and supports our volunteer efforts whenever possible.
When not at work Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, and four legged critters.
Kimmith Kelley, Vice President of Corporate Culture
Kimmith (Kim) Kelley possesses 27 years of experience in the utilities and energy services industry which includes leadership positions in customer service and human resources. Her most recent employer was with Ecova (formerly known as Advantage IQ) in Spokane, WA, where she held the position of organization development consultant.
She obtained a bachelor's degree from Eastern Washington University, graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors. Kim also received the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification from the Society for Human Resources Management and a Certified Professional Coactive Coach certification from the Coaches Training Institute.
Her position with Numerica involves partnering with the executive leadership team to insure that the culture being created aligns with the brand and corporate values. This includes leading the human resources and training departments as well.
Jane Ronnfeldt, Vice President of Marketing
Jane has 33 years of experience working in Credit Unions as a marketing professional. She started her credit union career in the late 70's in Seattle, Washington. Before joining Numerica Credit Union Jane was the SVP of Marketing for a large credit union in Southern California. During her 15 years where she was responsible for Marketing, Public Relations, Sales, Wealth Management, Research and Development and Retail Sales. Jane also was responsible for setting up a 501 (c) 3 foundation that provided scholarships to college bound members. Prior to her position in Southern California she was a Business Development Consultant for the CUNA Mutual Group in Madison, Wisconsin. As a Business Development Consultant she provided marketing consultation to top 200 credit unions in the Western United States by providing assistance with development, implementation and evaluation of customized strategic marketing plans. She was also a master trainer of a custom training program and trained trainers throughout Canada, Hawaii, California and Washington. Currently Jane is the VP of Marketing and is responsible for Marketing and Communications for Numerica. She has won numerous Spectrum and Golden Mirror awards through the years. She was an instructor at the CUNA Marketing School and the Executive Marketing Institute for CUES. She has been a speaker at numerous marketing conferences and league meetings throughout the United States. She is currently a member of the Northeast Kiwanis Group and past president and Kiwanian of the year for the Spokane Downtown Kiwanis. Jane is involved with a number of non-profits including Spokane Fantasy Flight and charitable causes that support children. She is a Graduate of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and has a Master's in Business Administration from California State University - San Bernardino with concentrations in Finance and Marketing.
Executive Board of Directors
Dave Shriver - Chairman
Dave has been a board member since 1987, and Chair of the Board of Directors since 1988. Dave is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and partner in the Burkhardt, Dierdorff, Shriver & Walther, PLLC, Accounting firm.
Scott Clark* - Co-Vice Chairman
Scott was a member of Numerica's Audit Committee and has been a Board member since 2006. He currently holds the position of Co-Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. He is active in the community and volunteers his time with various organizations including the YMCA and Washington State University. Scott graduated from Kinman Business University in 1986 with a diploma in Computer Applications/Accounting Applications. He has been employed with Itron since 1997 as a principle software engineer and is currently the technical lead for one of Itron's legacy meter data collection systems used by the largest utilities in the U.S. Scott is married and has one son who lives in the Spokane area. He enjoys camping and boating in the summer with his wife and their dog, Bogart, and is an active member in the Inland Empire Mustang Club where he enjoys attending area car shows.
Robin Harmon - Co-Vice Chairman
Robin has been a member of Numerica Credit Union since 1996 and currently serves as Co-Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. She and her family reside in Spokane. She is focused on being an active part of her community and divides her time between being a stay-at-home mom and a small business owner, focusing in business management. She has volunteered in the position of Treasurer for local non-profit corporations in the Spokane area. She is enthusiastic about being a volunteer board member for Numerica Credit Union, believing that all people deserve the respect of being provided the best service available.
Ron Hupp - Secretary
Before his election to the Board of Directors, where he serves as Secretary, Ron joined the Audit Committee in 2004 and served as Chairman. He previously served as the Chairman of the Audit Committee for North Central Credit Union in Wenatchee prior to its merger with Numerica. He is currently the City Clerk-Treasurer for the city of Entiat, WA. Ron holds both Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Business Education from Chadron State College in Nebraska. He is also actively involved in the Washington Finance Officers Association and past State President of the Washington State Association of Municipal Treasurers.
Board of Directors
Adam is a Client Services Representative with Ecova and is responsible working with CFOs, Controllers, and Accounts Payable departments to make sure general ledgers, accruals, and financial reports are ran correctly. He also ensures that Fortune 1000 companies are staying on budget for their energy usage. Adam graduated from Washington State University in 2003 with a BA in Sport Management and a minor in Business Management. In his free time, he enjoys camping and hiking with his wife and daughter.
Before his appointment to the Board of Directors in 2013, Adam served as an Associate Board Member.
Joe has been a board member since 1983-1985 and 1989 to date. Joe was previously a Carman for Western Fruit Express (Burlington Northern) and is active in the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (NARVE), Spokane Area Sheep Producers, and Reardan Grain Growers. Joe is currently the owner and operator of a small farm.
Larry has been a board member since 1996. He is a retired senior noncommissioned officer of the US Air Force, and the previous Code Enforcement Administrator for the City of Spokane. Larry is also the Chairman of the Numerica Credit Union Governance Committee.
Susan Nielsen is principal/owner of Strategic Niche, LLC, a consultancy specializing in reputation management, branding, media relations, corporate and investor relations communications and crisis preparation. Susan's executive background and client engagements include the energy, technology, higher education, natural resources, nonprofit and health care industries. As a small business owner, consultant and freelance journalist she has also focused on community philanthropy and volunteerism throughout her career. She is a graduate of Washington State University and received an advanced degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Eastern Washington University. Susan is Accredited in Public Relations (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America. She has been an active volunteer with many boards and committees including Spokane Public Schools, American Red Cross, Spokane Public Relations Society of America, Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, Junior Achievement of Washington, Spokane MARCOM, Alpha Chi Omega alumnae group and Leadership Spokane. She enjoys walking, fishing, boating and traveling. Susan and her husband Scott have two sons. The entire family has been active in the credit union movement for several years and they value the many ways Numerica Credit Union participates in and supports the communities where members reside and the vast array of products and services offered to members.

Scott is a partner and shareholder in BlodgettPlumb P.S. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Before being elected to the board, he served for two years on the Audit Committee. Scott also serves on the board for the Spokane Chapter of the Washington State Society of CPAs. Scott has also served in the past for other various non-profit organizations. Scott is a graduate of the University of Phoenix and is currently studying for his MBA from the University of Idaho. He will graduate May, 2013. Scott grew up in Las Vegas where he had an accounting practice for over 20 years. He and his wife have lived in Spokane Valley since 2006. They raised six children and have five grandchildren.

Grant is Chair of Numerica's Audit Committee. He is Chief Economist at Avista Corp. He received a BA in Economics from Central Washington University, an MBA in Finance from the University of Oregon and a Ph.D. in Economics from Washington State University. He serves on the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors and the Spokane Mayor's Council on Economic Policy and Forecasting. His research interests include banking and regional and international economic development.
Paula was born and raised in Spokane Valley, and currently resides in Rockford, Wash. Her community service involvement includes: ski instructor for Special Olympics and Adaptive, past board member of the Arc of Spokane, member of Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), and member of the Inland Northwest Fiddle Association. She is the owner/president of Opportunity Industries, a material-handling service company established in 1978. They service and install conveyor systems and provide a variety of industrial facility services from welding to woodworking throughout the Inland Northwest. Paula considers it an honor to be on Numerica's Audit Committee.
Rudy was a board member from 2003-2012, and is proud to now serve on the Audit Committee. He was previously the Director and Committeeman for North Central Credit Union before its merger with Numerica. Rudy is the Accounting Manager for Douglas County, he is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a former Audit Manager for Washington State, and Deputy Treasurer for Douglas County Public Utilities Department.
Steve is a native of Spokane and graduated from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He has been a business owner for more than 20 years, and he has a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing small businesses. Steve has a breadth of experience in financial and operational management, sales, and customer service in national, international and e-commerce. He serves as president of his home owners association and is a member of the Children of the Sun Investment Club. Steve and his wife, long-time members of Numerica, have two children and three grandchildren.
Wes Mortensen is the managing attorney of the Spokane office of Craig Swapp and Associates, and is licensed to practice law in the states of Washington, Idaho, California and New Mexico. He is also licensed to practice in United States District Court in the Eastern District of Washington and District of New Mexico, as well as United States Court of Appeals (Tenth Circuit). His practice focuses on negotiating, litigating, mediating, and arbitrating cases involving automobile accidents, truck accidents, wrongful death, and negligent injury.
Wes attended Brigham Young University on scholarship and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy, and with a minor in Japanese studies. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in 2004. While at law school, Wes was lead editor of the BYU Journal of Public Law and was recognized with an award for Outstanding Student Contribution in First Year Civil Procedure. During law school and since his graduation, Wes has been associated with law firms in Washington, New Mexico and California – gaining professional experience in various areas of the law, including personal injury, product liability, commercial and construction litigation, employment law, professional liability, trademark law, and workers compensation.
Wes also spends a great deal of time in various volunteer organizations. Beginning with a two year service mission for his church in Japan, Wes has participated as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America over the years, as a Trustee of the Young Lawyers Division of the Spokane County Bar Association, and currently serves as the Chair of the Spokane Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society – a service-based alumni organization. Wes is also honored to have been recently elected by the Board of Directors of Numerica Credit Union to serve as an Associate Director of the Board.
In his spare time, Wes enjoys spending time with his family in the warm months at lake Coeur d’Alene, watching Disney movies with his young children, and coaches youth soccer.
