Carla Altepeter, President and CEO
Carla Altepeter is president/CEO of Numerica Credit Union in Spokane, Washington. Numerica is a $1.5 billion Credit Union serving 114,000 members in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. In addition to her role as president/CEO of Numerica, Carla co-chairs the Northwest Credit Union Association’s Governmental Affairs Committee, serves on the Greater Spokane Incorporated (GSI) Board of Directors and the Inland Northwest Community Foundation and is Vice Chair on the 2nd Harvest Board of Directors. Before becoming the President and CEO at Numerica Credit Union, Carla Altepeter served as president/CEO of CitizensFirst Credit Union in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for 19 years.
At the national level, Carla serves on the WOCCU Foundation Development Committee and is Treasurer of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion. Carla is a past board member of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and past board member and Chair the Credit Union Executive Society (CUES). She was inducted into the CUES Hall of Fame in 2010.
In 2014, Carla was honored to receive the Inland Business Catalyst Women in Business Leadership Award. She is a past recipient of the Tempo International Distinguished Service Award, the Athena International Leadership Award, and the Sam Walton Business Leader Award. Carla received a baccalaureate degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. She has also completed the CUES Certified Chief Executive Institute, and the CUES Advanced Leadership Institute.
On a personal note, Carla is married and has four grown children. She has a passion for serving the poor in third world countries and enjoys spending time with family, exercise, reading books, golf and good wine.
Jennifer Lehn, Chief Operations Officer
Jennifer Lehn joined Numerica Credit Union in 1989 as the Chief Financial Officer after spending 10 years auditing financial institutions with a regional CPA firm. She currently serves as Chief Operations Officer, responsible for retail service delivery and lending, Numerica Financial Services, and corporate business development. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Idaho, with majors in Finance and Accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant.
Jennifer is past chair of the CUNA Operations, Sales, and Service Council, and previously served on the CUNA CFO Council Executive Committee. She was also a member of the League Services, Inc. board, and served a three-year term on the American Institute of Public Accountants Credit Unions Committee. In the Spokane community, Jennifer has served on the Board of Gonzaga Preparatory School and chaired its Finance Committee. She serves as Allocations Chair of the Women Helping Women Fund of Spokane.
When not at work, Jennifer enjoys her two boys, two dogs, skiing, hiking and attempting to golf. She also enjoys boating around the family cabin in Priest Lake, Idaho.
Kelley Ferguson, Chief Information Officer
Kelley Ferguson has worked in the financial industry for almost 20 years, and has been employed by Numerica since 1998. He has held several positions within the credit union while advancing to his current position of CIO. He is responsible for technology innovation and leadership at the credit union. Kelley is a Certified Information Systems Auditor, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, a Certified Information Systems Security Manager, and holds additional certifications from both Microsoft and Cisco. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Whitworth University, where he graduated Cum Laude, and earned his Master's degree from Gonzaga University. Kelley also achieved a certification in Servant Leadership at Gonzaga University.
Kelley was a CUNA technology council best practices award winner in 2007. He has a passion for speaking on security, and volunteers his time to educate groups on electronic threats and ways to avoid becoming a victim of computer fraud. Kelley was interviewed in a three-part series about the threat of identity theft on NBC's TODAY Show, where Numerica was featured alongside Trace Security for their efforts to educate members about threats. In his spare time, Kelley enjoys coaching football and basketball, volunteering his time on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of the Inland Northwest and hanging out with his family.
Cindy Leaver, Chief Financial Officer
Cindy has served as Numerica Credit Union's Chief Financial Officer since 2005. Prior to joining the Numerica team, Cindy had more than 10 years of progressive responsibility within the financial services industry, including several years in the Farm Credit system. Cindy brings many strengths to Numerica, including: asset liability management; allowance for loan losses & TDR analysis; budgeting; investments; profitability analysis & reporting; strategic planning and process improvement.
Cindy is currently the Treasurer for the APPLE Franklin Parents Committee. She is a member of the CUNA CFO Council and has served in a volunteer capacity on both the Communications and Partners in Finance committees. She is a past director, treasurer and president of the Spokane Chapter of the Washington Society of CPAs, and she is a past member of the City of Spokane Audit Committee.
Cindy completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting through Gonzaga University and is a Certified Public Accountant. She also holds an Advanced Project Management certification through Eastern Washington University.
Cindy is married and has four children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children and scrapbooking.
Nancy Norbury-Harter, Chief Branding Officer
Nancy Norbury-Harter joined Numerica Credit Union in 1990 as a Vice President of Human Resources. She moved to Senior Vice President of Administration in 2008. Nancy holds a BA from Washington State University.
Nancy is active both in the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Human Resource Council and Society of Human Resources Management. She sits on the Northwest Financial Associations' Employee Benefit Trust Steering Committee which represents both Credit Union and Banks. She has been President of the Northwest Human Resource Management Association as well as a Washington State Council Representative. She supports Numerica's various community involvement events as well as charitable activities. She also enjoys volunteering her time with various associations such as American Cancer Association, March of Dimes, Spokane Guild's School, Central Valley School District and YWCA of Spokane Board of Directors.
Kenneth Plank, Chief Lending Officer
Ken comes to Numerica from Washington Trust Bank where he held the position of small business banking manager, reporting to the executive vice president of retail banking. He has over 25 years of experience in commercial lending at Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank and Washington Trust. Plank also has experience in small business administration lending, consumer and mortgage lending and dealer financing.
He has a bachelor's of science degree in business management from Lewis-Clark State College and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School.
Plank is married and resides in the Spokane area.
Lynn Ciani, EVP General Counsel
Lynn Ciani has over 30 years of experience as a lawyer representing the financial industry. She was a partner in the corporate/securities department of the law firm of McKenna & Fitting before moving to Washington over 20 years ago to raise her family in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
She obtained her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Los Angeles and graduated cum laude from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. She is a member of the Washington, Idaho and California bars.
Lynn is married and is very proud of her three grown children.
Executive Board of Directors
Ron Hupp* - Chairman
Before his election to the Board of Directors, where he serves as Chairman, Ron joined the Audit Committee in 2004 and served as Chairman. He previously served as the Chairman of the Audit Committee for North Central Credit Union in Wenatchee prior to its merger with Numerica. He is currently an accountant for the city of Chelan, Wash. Ron holds both Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Business Education from Chadron State College in Nebraska. He is also actively involved in the Washington Finance Officers Association and past State President of the Washington State Association of Municipal Treasurers.
Scott Clark* - Vice Chairman
Scott was a member of Numerica's Audit Committee and has been a Board member since 2006. He currently holds the position of Co-Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. He is active in the community and volunteers his time with various organizations including the YMCA and Washington State University. Scott graduated from Kinman Business University in 1986 with a diploma in Computer Applications/Accounting Applications. He has been employed with Itron since 1997 as a principle software engineer and is currently the technical lead for one of Itron's legacy meter data collection systems used by the largest utilities in the U.S. Scott is married and has one son who lives in the Spokane area. He enjoys camping and boating in the summer with his wife and their dog, Bogart, and is an active member in the Inland Empire Mustang Club where he enjoys attending area car shows.
Adam Benson - Secretary
Adam is a Client Services Representative with Ecova and is responsible working with CFOs, Controllers, and Accounts Payable departments to make sure general ledgers, accruals, and financial reports are ran correctly. He also ensures that Fortune 1000 companies are staying on budget for their energy usage. Adam graduated from Washington State University in 2003 with a BA in Sport Management and a minor in Business Management. In his free time, he enjoys camping and hiking with his wife and daughter.
Before his appointment to the Board of Directors in 2013, Adam served as an Associate Board Member.
Board of Directors
Robin has been a member of Numerica Credit Union since 1996 and currently serves as Co-Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. She and her family reside in Spokane. She is focused on being an active part of her community and divides her time between being a stay-at-home mom and a small business owner, focusing in business management. She has volunteered in the position of Treasurer for local non-profit corporations in the Spokane area. She is enthusiastic about being a volunteer board member for Numerica Credit Union, believing that all people deserve the respect of being provided the best service available.
Wes Mortensen is the managing attorney of the Spokane office of Craig Swapp and Associates, and is licensed to practice law in the states of Washington, Idaho, California and New Mexico. He is also licensed to practice in United States District Court in the Eastern District of Washington and District of New Mexico, as well as United States Court of Appeals (Tenth Circuit). His practice focuses on negotiating, litigating, mediating, and arbitrating cases involving automobile accidents, truck accidents, wrongful death, and negligent injury.
Wes attended Brigham Young University on scholarship and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy, and with a minor in Japanese studies. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in 2004. While at law school, Wes was lead editor of the BYU Journal of Public Law and was recognized with an award for Outstanding Student Contribution in First Year Civil Procedure. During law school and since his graduation, Wes has been associated with law firms in Washington, New Mexico and California – gaining professional experience in various areas of the law, including personal injury, product liability, commercial and construction litigation, employment law, professional liability, trademark law, and workers compensation.
Wes also spends a great deal of time in various volunteer organizations. Beginning with a two year service mission for his church in Japan, Wes has participated as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America over the years, as a Trustee of the Young Lawyers Division of the Spokane County Bar Association, and currently serves as the Chair of the Spokane Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society – a service-based alumni organization.
In his spare time, Wes enjoys spending time with his family in the warm months at lake Coeur d’Alene, watching Disney movies with his young children, and coaches youth soccer.
Susan Joseph Nielsen is the Executive Director for the College Success Foundation-Spokane. CSF provides the unique integrated system of supports and scholarships to inspire underserved, low-income students to finish high school, graduate from college and succeed in life. She has also been the Principal/Owner of Strategic Niche, LLC, a consultancy specializing in reputation management, branding, media relations, corporate and investor relations communications and crisis preparation. Susan's executive background and client engagements include the energy, technology, higher education, natural resources, nonprofit and health care sectors. As a small business owner, consultant and freelance journalist she has also focused on community philanthropy and volunteerism throughout her career. She is a graduate of Washington State University and received an advanced degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Eastern Washington University. Susan is Accredited in Public Relations (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America. She has been an active volunteer with many boards and committees including Spokane Public Schools, American Red Cross, Spokane Public Relations Society of America, Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, Junior Achievement of Washington, Spokane MARCOM, Alpha Chi Omega alumnae group and Leadership Spokane. She enjoys walking, fishing, boating and traveling. Susan and her husband Scott have two adult sons. The entire family has been active in the credit union movement for several years and they value the many ways Numerica Credit Union participates in and supports the communities where members reside.
Scott is a partner/shareholder in the Spokane CPA firm of BlodgettPlumb P.S. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Before being elected to the board in 2012, and being re-elected in 2015, he served on the Audit Committee for two years. Scott is the immediate past president of the Spokane Chapter of the Washington State Society of CPAs. Scott also has served on other non-profit boards in the past. He has devoted many years to the Boy Scouts of America.
Scott attended the University of Nevada and graduated from the University of Phoenix. He received his MBA from the University of Idaho in 2013. Scott currently teaches as an adjunct for Whitworth University in accounting and taxation. He really loves giving back to others through his teaching.
Scott grew up in Las Vegas where he had an accounting and taxation practice for over 20 years. He and his wife raised six children and have five grandchildren. Scott has lived in Spokane Valley since 2005, and has been a member of Numerica since that time.
During his spare time, he enjoys traveling, gardening, playing with grandchildren, and spending quality time with his wife, Liz.
Dave has been a board member since 1987, and was Chair of the Board of Directors from 1988-2015. Dave is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and partner in the Burkhardt, Dierdorff, Shriver & Walther, PLLC, Accounting firm.
Yvonne was recently elected to the board of directors and uses her significant business development and marketing expertise, earned over the past 25 years, to ensure Numerica's continued growth and financial health. A 1988 graduate of EWU, Yvonne is a dedicated mother to her daughter Bella and has a demonstrated commitment of service to our community serving on numerous boards including the Rate Payer Advisory Board for the Downtown Spokane Partnership, Leadership Spokane, Cancer Patient Care and TeenCloset to name a few. Yvonne currently works as a Director for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and Northern Quest Resort & Casino.
Liesel has worked in the education, training, and corporate performance improvement industry for over 20 years. Currently, she is the Director of Marketing and Sales for Global Financial Markets Institute (GFMI), a NASBA certified financial training and consulting boutique that designs and delivers highly interactive, creative financial training solutions to commercial banks, regulators, insurance firms, investment banks, rating agencies, and support firms in the US, Canada, and elsewhere.
Prior to joining GFMI, Liesel served as Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Operations for Omega Performance, an international performance improvement company providing credit and sales skills training for the financial services industry. During her 18+ years at Omega, Liesel also held leadership positions in learning technology, design and development, facilitator management, consulting services, client implementations, and publications and production.
Liesel graduated with honors from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia with a B.S. in Communication. She continued her education with post-baccalaureate studies in Psychology (particularly social, learning, and organizational psychology) and graduate work in Business and Finance from the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Liesel enjoys getting involved with and giving back to her community. Accordingly, she has participated in Habitat for Humanity building projects, with Room in the Inn housing solutions for homeless men and women, and with Rotary. For over 20 years, she has served in a variety of volunteer and lay leadership roles in several Episcopal parishes throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and now Washington.
Matt is the Executive Director of the Spokane Hoopfest Association and Spokane Regional AAU Basketball Club. A graduate and former student-athlete of Gonzaga University, Matt continued playing basketball throughout Europe upon graduation. After basketball, Matt worked in business development for a local investment firm, Summit Capital. He then transitioned to an Employee Benefits Consultant with Moloney & O’Neill, but basketball came calling once again. His current role at Hoopfest has him involved with the largest three-on-three basketball tournament on earth and with our region’s premier youth basketball program. Matt lives in Spokane with his wife Cathy, sons Calvin and Luca, and daughter Stella.
Nicole Floyd, CPA, SPHR, CAE, is Chair of Numerica's Audit Committee. She brings nearly 20 years’ experience in areas of finance, management, sales and international business to Numerica Credit Union's Audit Committee. A native Washingtonian, Nicole has spent the bulk of her career in association management in the greater Seattle area, working as the Director of Finance and Administration for the Washington Society of CPAs in Bellevue, Wash. from 2000 to 2006, and has served in similar capacities for other state professional and trade associations. Nicole has lived in Spokane since 2004, and was the Chief Financial Officer for a technology company in Spokane Valley for over five years before she joined the team at EmSpring Corporation in 2012. Nicole is also part owner of two Spokane-based businesses.
Nicole received her BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington with concentrations in Accounting and Marketing. She has been a licensed CPA since 1997 and also holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources certification.
As EmSpring's HR & Employee Benefits Consultant, Nicole is focused on value-add Client Services for employers and their HR & Benefits leaders. She’s based out of the EmSpring Spokane office and supports EmSpring business throughout Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Nicole and her family live in south Spokane on acreage and enjoy horse racing, spending time with family and traveling.

Dr. Grant D. Forsyth
Grant is the Chief Economist of Avista Corp. Before joining Avista in 2012, he was Professor of Economics at Eastern Washington University from 1999 to 2012. Prior to that, from 1996 to 1999, he worked in the Czech Republic as an academic and private sector economist. He received his BA in Economics from Central Washington University (1988), his MBA in Finance from the University of Oregon (1990), and his PhD in Economics from Washington State University (1996). He also serves on the Washington Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors, The Citizen Commission for the Performance Measurement of Tax Preferences, and the Spokane Mayor’s Economic Advisory Roundtable.
Paula was born and raised in Spokane Valley, and currently resides in Rockford, Wash. Her community service involvement includes: ski instructor for Special Olympics and Adaptive, past board member of the Arc of Spokane, member of Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), and member of the Inland Northwest Fiddle Association. She is the owner/president of Opportunity Industries, a material-handling service company established in 1978. They service and install conveyor systems and provide a variety of industrial facility services from welding to woodworking throughout the Inland Northwest. Paula considers it an honor to be on Numerica's Audit Committee.
Steve is a native of Spokane and graduated from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He has been a business owner for more than 20 years, and he has a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing small businesses. Steve has a breadth of experience in financial and operational management, sales, and customer service in national, international and e-commerce. He serves as president of his home owners association and is a member of the Children of the Sun Investment Club. Steve and his wife, long-time members of Numerica, have two children and three grandchildren.
