Consumers’ Needs Evolve with Technology

The 25-year-old Coeur d’Alene personal trainer needed a financial institution with the tools to meet his evolving needs. He found that with Numerica Credit Union.

“I love Numerica,” said Casey, who also works as a tattoo artist at Call of the Wild Tattoo. “I have my auto loan, credit cards and checking account with them. I can’t wait to refinance my mortgage with them too. They know me.” Casey is like a lot of young adults – he’s reliant on mobile technology to run his personal and professional finances. “Numerica’s mobile app is very simple, easy to use,” said Casey. “I pay my bills on it and I can check my accounts 24/7. It has never crashed. It’s the epitome of convenience.”

Casey is part of a movement: People who want a quick and direct connection to their money. Enhanced ATMs let them quickly grab money and even deposit cash. With smartphones and other mobile devices, they can now deposit a check and transfer funds between accounts with the click of a button while hanging out with friends. Gone are the days of having to call in to find out a balance or standing in line just to deposit a check. “I can take a picture of my check and it goes right into my account,” said Casey. “It is very streamlined, which is good because I am pretty busy.” That’s because Casey launched a new physical training business, Intent Fitness System, earlier this year.

“It focuses on functional movement and mobility,” he said. “So far, it’s doing well. We’re growing.”

Owning and operating a business has made Casey much more aware of financial transactions, cash flow, and taxes. Having his business and personal accounts at Numerica make managing those finances that much more convenient.

“Technology is great, but there are times when I need to come into the branch,” he said. “Because they know me. They answer one question and it prompts four or five more. They’re always able to answer those.”

Numerica recently remodeled its Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls branches. At first glance, the new branch design feels more like a coffee shop than a credit union.

“It doesn’t have that old Wall Street bank feel; it’s really cool in here,” said Casey. “The staff really know their stuff.”

Visitors are greeted with an open floor plan and bright pops of color from the lime green furniture and electronic display featuring local photography. While the space is contemporary, there are nods to the past with a delicate balance of comfort, color and technology.

“With technology able to assist in many of the day-to-day transactions, branch interactions can focus on the next step in financial care and offer a more complete dialogue for a member’s well-being,” said Tammy Androes, Numerica’s Post Falls branch manager.

Staff can assist with a variety of needs ranging from deposits and withdrawals to opening new accounts and performing loan transactions. These tasks were previously very linear and a member would have to visit with multiple people to accomplish their goal.

Advanced training allows for the next step of care for members: being offered products and services that help enhance their daily lives, taking the stress out of finance and helping them to live well. In addition to being able to customize financial services for members, staff serve as educators,
helping members learn how to use the new technology such as mobile apps or the enhanced ATM.

In addition to the Post Falls branch (775 N. Highway 41), Numerica just completed remodeling the Coeur d’Alene branch (465 W. Bosanko Ave.) to reflect the new design concept.
