Meet the leaders nominated to serve Numerica

Nominees to be confirmed during Numerica’s Annual Membership Meeting on June 17, 2026

 

Numerica Credit Union announces four nominees to fill expiring terms on the Board of Directors. The nominated candidates will be formally confirmed during Numerica’s Annual Membership Meeting on June 17, 2026.

Nominated to fill the four open seats on the Board of Directors are Vanessa Moos, Dan Springer, and Christine Varela, each nominated for three-year terms, and returning Board Member Yvonne Esquibel Smith who has been nominated for a two-year term.

Together, the nominees bring extensive experience in strategic leadership, communications, business operations, nonprofit leadership, governance, finance, and community engagement to help lead Numerica into the future and continue to strengthen its ability to serve members across the Inland Northwest.

“Our board is responsible for guiding the direction of the credit union in the best interests of our members while positioning us for long-term success,” said Numerica Board Chair Wes Mortensen. “Christine, Vanessa, Dan, and Yvonne each bring valuable expertise, leadership experience, and community perspective. We’re excited to welcome new voices to the board while building on the strong leadership that supports Numerica’s future.”


Vanessa Moos


Moos brings a strong background in nonprofit leadership, organizational strategy, and community engagement. She is also a proud military spouse whose Marine Corps family is grounded in service, leadership, and community.

Moos is founder and owner of Regatta Strategy Group, where she works with mission-driven organizations to strengthen leadership, operations, and long-term performance.

Prior to launching Regatta Strategy Group, Moos served as Chief Executive Officer of Canopy Village leading advocacy and policy work to drive the health and safety of children and families. Earlier in her career, she served with the American Cancer Society.

Moos holds a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University Dominguez Hills. She is also a Certified Fundraising Executive.

Her board and leadership experience includes service with Leadership Coeur d’Alene and the Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber, where she currently serves as Secretary and has contributed to finance and leadership-focused committees.


Dan Springer


Dan Springer currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for MultiCare’s Inland Northwest Region Hospitals, overseeing operations, leadership development, financial stewardship, and strategic implementation for Deaconess and Valley Hospitals.

Over the course of his career, Springer has held executive leadership positions across healthcare systems roles nationwide.

He holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Springer’s board and committee experience includes leadership roles with Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, Spokane County United Way, and MultiCare regional and foundation boards, with experience supporting finance, executive, and CEO search committees.

Christine Varela


Christine Varela has more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning strategic communications, business operations, governance, and executive advising.

Varela is a Partner and co-owner of DH, a statewide strategic communications agency. Over the past 16 years, she has helped lead the agency’s growth strategy, business development, operations, and consulting work, helping double revenue and leading an acquisition that expanded DH’s footprint across Washington State.

Her governance experience includes leadership roles with AAA Washington, Greater Spokane Incorporated, the Washington State Public Charter School Commission, Spokane County United Way, and the Pacific North District Public Relations Society of America.


Yvonne Esquibel Smith


Yvonne Esquibel Smith is re-nominated to continue serving on Numerica’s board, where she has contributed leadership and governance expertise for more than a decade, including as Vice Chair and serving on Numerica’s Audit Committee.

Esquibel Smith currently serves as Director of Development and Community Engagement for Comma Community Journalism Lab, leading fundraising strategies and community partnerships supporting sustainable local journalism.

Her leadership experience spans philanthropy, hospitality, community engagement, and nonprofit development, including leadership roles with Innovia Foundation and Northern Quest Resort & Casino.

Throughout her career, Esquibel Smith has been dedicated to community leadership, serving organizations including the YWCA of Spokane, Eastern Washington University, Latino Hope Foundation, Leadership Spokane, Teen Closet and College Success Foundation.


Numerica’s board election process


Numerica’s Board of Directors provides governance, strategic oversight, and fiduciary responsibility on behalf of the credit union and its member-owners. Following this year’s election process, Numerica’s Board will include nine directors serving alongside four Audit Committee members.

Numerica Credit Union follows a board election process established in its bylaws and rooted in cooperative principles.

Each year, Numerica’s Nominating Committee, made up of independent directors, interviews, and selects candidates for open board positions based on the strategic needs and long-term success of the credit union and the members it serves.
