Susan is the Rural Services Manager with the Washington State Department of Commerce's Office of Economic Development and Competitiveness. She is part of the marketing and rural services team leading Economic Gardening and Startup 365 programs, as well as providing expert training and other technical assistance to small businesses east of the Cascades. In this role, Susan partners with local associate development organizations on a range of economic development projects.
She has also been a small business owner/consultant as the Principal/Owner of Strategic Niche, LLC, a consultancy specializing in reputation management, branding, media relations, corporate and investor relations communications and crisis preparation. Susan's executive background and client engagements include the energy, technology, K-12 and higher education, natural resources, non-profit and health care sectors. As a small business owner, consultant, professional speaker, published author, and freelance journalist, her business experience has spanned many industries.
Susan has also focused on community philanthropy and volunteerism throughout her career. She has been and remains an active volunteer with many boards and committees including the American Red Cross, Spokane South Rotary Club, Spokane Public Relations Society of America, Spokane MarCom Association, Leadership Spokane - Class of 2012, the Washington State University Alumni Association, and the local Alpha Chi Omega sorority alumnae group.
She is a graduate of Washington State University and received an advanced degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Eastern Washington University. Susan is Accredited in Public Relations (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America.
For fun and leisure, Susan enjoys reading, walking, biking, RV camping, fishing, boating and traveling. Susan and her husband Scott have two adult sons. The entire family has been active in the credit union movement for several years and they value the many ways Numerica Credit Union participates in and supports the communities where members reside.
Prior to serving on the Board of Directors, Susan served as a member of Numerica's Audit Committee.
